Prime Alpine Destinations at a Glance
St. Moritz sits in the Engadin valley at around 1,800 m, on a ski region of roughly 350 km of pistes across Corviglia, Corvatsch, and Diavolezza — and it books as one stop in a wider winter route curated by SOLO.CONCIERGE:
Luxury Chalet Rental in St. Moritz — the Legendary Engadin Resort, Turnkey
St. Moritz is the resort where the history of winter tourism began. In 1864 Johannes Badrutt, owner of the Kulm hotel, invited his English summer guests to return in winter, promising to cover their stay if they did not enjoy it; they arrived at Christmas and stayed until spring. Today St. Moritz is known for its Olympic history, Michelin-starred restaurants, prestigious hotels, and events held directly on the ice of the frozen lake. SOLO.CONCIERGE arranges the stay around your preferences — from a chalet in Suvretta or the resort centre to a home in a neighbouring alpine village — coordinating staff, transfers, restaurant bookings, and access to the season's key events, so the trip becomes a personally planned journey rather than just a ski holiday.
What St. Moritz Is
St. Moritz is a resort in the canton of Graubünden, in the Engadin valley at around 1,800 metres. Host of two Winter Olympics (1928 and 1948), it bills itself as the world's first winter resort, and over time it has built one of the densest clusters of luxury infrastructure in the Alps. The resort splits into two parts:
- St. Moritz Dorf: the upper part on the rise above the lake — the heart of the hotels (Badrutt's Palace, Kulm, Suvretta House), high-fashion boutiques, restaurants, and social life.
- St. Moritz Bad: the lower district by the lake, historically known for its thermal springs, with wellness infrastructure and some of the newer architecture.
As a ski resort it runs across three zones on a single pass — Corviglia, the main area above Dorf, linked by cable car straight from the village; Corvatsch, for experienced skiers, with glacier skiing and long runs; and Diavolezza + Lagalb, for experts and off-piste at the gate of the Bernina massif. In total around 350 km of pistes — noticeably more than Gstaad or Megève, but less than Les Trois Vallées in France.
What Sets the Location Apart
St. Moritz has more than 300 sunny days a year thanks to its alpine plateau and the Engadin microclimate. In winter the frozen St. Moritzsee becomes the stage for the season's main events — White Turf, the Snow Polo World Cup, The Ice, and Ice Cricket. Its geography adds another layer: the Italian border is two hours away, giving access to produce, wines, and suppliers from Valtellina and Lombardy, and the UNESCO-listed Bernina Express narrow-gauge railway runs from St. Moritz to Tirano through glaciers and viaducts.
Chalet Categories
A luxury chalet in St. Moritz is matched to the character of the trip and the family's preferences:
- Authentic Engadine-style chalets: thick stone walls, sgraffito carving on the façades, wooden balconies, and the characteristic rounded windows — some in Celerina, Pontresina, and older parts of St. Moritz keeping their 17th–19th century look.
- Modern projects in Suvretta: the most prestigious residential sector, above Suvretta House — glass façades, a spa on the lower level, and panoramic views of the lake and the Bernina massif.
- Ski-in / ski-out on the Corviglia side: direct access to the piste from the door, the easiest format for active skiers.
- Private chalets in neighbouring villages: Sils Maria, Silvaplana, Pontresina, Celerina, and Samedan — more privacy while keeping quick access to St. Moritz.
Chalets in our pool run from 6 to 15 bedrooms, with staff of 5 to 12 depending on scale and level.
What a Staffed Chalet in St. Moritz Includes
A fully staffed format is the standard in the luxury segment:
- Private chef: Swiss and Italian cuisine — pizzoccheri from Valtellina, chäschüechli, ossobuco milanese, game, fresh truffle pasta, and wines from Grisons and Italy (Barolo, Barbaresco, Amarone), with a menu built from a preference sheet in advance.
- Housekeeping: full service through the day, with bedrooms and common areas prepared in the evening.
- Butler / host: guest welcome, evening reception, and coordination of the staff.
- 4×4 chauffeur: a Range Rover or Mercedes G-Class on winter tyres — important on the Engadine's switchback roads, especially the climb to Suvretta or Silvaplana.
- Ski instruction: private Swiss Ski School St. Moritz instructors and off-piste guides for Corvatsch and Diavolezza.
- On-site spa and wellness: sauna, steam room, hammam, and hydro-massage pool as standard, with a private trainer and masseur on request in larger chalets.
Beyond the core staff, a nanny speaking the client's language, private Bernina Express excursions, tastings with a Grisons or Lombard sommelier, and masterclasses with a local cheesemaker or a chocolatier in Zuoz can be added.
Restaurants in St. Moritz
St. Moritz has one of the densest clusters of Michelin stars among alpine villages. The key addresses for peak dates — White Turf, Snow Polo, the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival, New Year — are reserved four to six months ahead, and our advisor holds the tables from the moment the chalet is confirmed:
- Da Vittorio at The Carlton — three Michelin stars, the Cerea family's Italian cuisine, one of the hardest bookings on the resort.
- Ecco at Giardino Mountain (Champfèr) — a landmark of the region under Rolf Fliegauf.
- La Marmite on Corviglia — at 2,486 m, known for truffle and caviar in the mountains.
- IGNIV by Andreas Caminada — the sharing concept at Badrutt's Palace.
- Chesa Veglia — a historic chalet-restaurant from Badrutt's Palace with three concepts under one roof.
Smaller mountain spots such as El Paradiso, Alpina Hütte, and Salastrains are recommended by the advisor to suit the character of the evening.
Ski School & Skiing
Swiss Ski School St. Moritz is the base, with private instructors at standard regional rates; in high season slots are booked ahead together with the chalet, and the children's programme runs with English-, German-, Italian-, and French-speaking instructors. Heli-skiing is available across the Bernina massif — one of Switzerland's leading off-piste programmes — built around specific days with suitable snow and coordinated through our advisor. For advanced skiers, the off-piste on Piz Nair and Corvatsch is considered among the best in the Alps: long lines over glacier terrain, access to leeward slopes, and varied relief. The skiing suits everyone from beginners to expert; for extreme skiing the region is more serious than Gstaad and comparable to Verbier, and the glacier runs on Corvatsch and Diavolezza stay open later than the main season.
The Season's Legendary Events
St. Moritz sells itself as an experience rather than a ski destination, and its event calendar is unique:
- White Turf (three Sundays in February): horse racing on the frozen St. Moritzsee — the only races of this scale in the world held on ice, with boxes, receptions, and dinners on a closed social calendar.
- Snow Polo World Cup (January): an international snow polo tournament on the lake, with receptions alongside the teams and owners.
- St. Moritz Gourmet Festival (January): guest chefs from around the world hosting dinners in the resort's hotels.
- The Ice: a concours d'élégance for classic cars on the frozen lake, with rare Bugatti, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo on the ice.
- Cresta Run: the legendary toboggan club running since 1885, men only, with closed membership and one-off runs possible by recommendation.
Invitations, boxes, and receptions around these events are arranged in advance — some run on closed lists where a client's presence is only possible through a partner channel.
Who the Service Is For
A St. Moritz chalet rental through SOLO.CONCIERGE suits:
- Families who want the full context of a European luxury resort — restaurants, events, and the social life of the village — not just the mountain and the chalet.
- Guests coming specifically for White Turf, the Snow Polo World Cup, the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival, or The Ice.
- Returning clients who have spent seasons across the Alps and want the highest concentration of Michelin stars and events.
- Advanced and expert skiers — Corvatsch, Diavolezza, off-piste on Piz Nair, and heli-skiing across the Bernina massif.
- Families with children — Swiss Ski School, a nanny, and a programme on and off the slope (dog sledding, sledging on Muottas Muragl, ice skating on the lake).
- Clients planning a summer visit to the Engadin, where hiking, MTB, kite-surfing on Silvaplanasee, the Bernina Express, and Valtellina tastings give a completely different rhythm.
Why Choose SOLO.CONCIERGE
St. Moritz real estate is a market with a high share of off-market supply: much of the best stock never appears in open databases and passes between owners and regular tenants through a limited circle of brokers. Our Cannes office and partners in Geneva and Lugano know the owners personally, inspect chalets before each season, and work only with vetted staff. It is also a resort where social context matters: the advisor keeps the event calendar, secures tables at Da Vittorio, Ecco, and IGNIV, arranges invitations to White Turf receptions, helps with an introduction through the Cresta Run, and coordinates the inner boxes of the Snow Polo and the Gourmet Festival receptions. Privacy is part of the product — an NDA by default, with chalet staff who work with returning guests for years. A chalet in St. Moritz can be booked on its own or as part of a season route — Courchevel for Christmas, Gstaad for New Year, St. Moritz for White Turf — all run by one advisor, in a single document, with no parallel contracts with local companies.
